UCU Richmond Branch: We’re here to represent Adjunct Faculty
Adjunct employees on insecure contracts have typically comprised over 60% of faculty at Richmond. Since its inception, this branch has successfully worked to improve the employment conditions of Adjunct Faculty at the University and reduce zero-hours contracts.
Did you know that after four years’ continuous employment you are considered to be on a permanent contract? or that at Richmond there is a possibility over time of moving onto a Guaranteed Courses contract which offers more secure employment?
We encourage our Adjunct UCU colleagues to join the Branch working group on Adjunct Faculty Issues. The Branch also holds occasional meetings open to all Adjuncts interested in learning more and getting involved. We have additionally started an Adjunct Faculty WhatsApp group for all Adjuncts as a means of exchanging ideas and providing mutual support. For more information or to be added to the WhatsApp, please contact the Adjunct Faculty Rep through the Branch email: richmonducubranch@richmond.ac.uk.

As part of the Branch’s ongoing campaign to improve employment contracts for Adjunct Faculty, we are calling on the University to:
- give Adjunct faculty of two or more years’ standing the option of moving to permanent fractional and full-time contracts;
- review the pay of Adjunct Faculty contracts to ensure equity across departments and pay levels comparable to other higher education institutions in London.
