Adjunct Faculty Survey 2023-24

In their own words: Our Adjunct Colleagues

We need to end casualisation at Richmond!

Our Adjunct Faculty colleagues report feeling isolated, invisible, unappreciated and unvalued according to the results of our UCU Adjunct Faculty Survey. They are also suffering financially due to the status of their contracts with Richmond. Our colleagues have been loyal to Richmond for many years, teaching several courses each semester up to and sometimes exceeding a full-time faculty teaching load. We believe this has to stop, and our colleagues should be rewarded for their service and commitment with secure contracts equivalent to those of full-time faculty.

UCU met with representatives from HR and the University Executive Team (UET) on Friday February 16th 2024 to present the results of the survey and make the case for improving working conditions and pressing for the end to casualised employment at Richmond. The meeting was positive with UET sharing UCU’s concerns about the precarity of Adjunct Colleague’s employment. UET presented initial plans to address this situation moving forward. The scheme is potentially going to offer some colleagues enhanced job security long term. We will keep you updated on the development and progress of this University initiative and we are pleased to report that our collective pressure through campaigning on Adjunct issues is being heard.
